Hey kids, as you probably know Lollapalooza is coming back for another year this weekend down at Chicago’s Grant Park. Unfortunately I have hats to make and won’t be making an appearance downtown. But I’ll be there in spirit as I watch the webcast. Some of my favorite bands are playing this year such as Radiohead, Wilco, Broken Social Scene, Rage Against the Machine, The National, Iron and Wine, The Ting Tings, and Kanye West, all in my backyard!

How’s it hanging fellow hat lovers? In addition to adoring cool hats, we’ve just found two websites that highlight two of our closest loves, mustaches and doughnuts. Check out Fuzzy Ink for all of your new favorite mustache apparel. Now in addition to wearing a sweet mustache on my face, I have the option of sporting an awesomely designed mustache tshirt! Voodoo Doughnuts does not sell your average gas station doughnut. Voodoo’s specialty doughnuts range from bacon-topped doughnuts to voodoo doll-shaped doughnuts and each appear to be a real delicacy. I am planning my trip now to Portland, Oregon just to gord myself on Voodoo Doughnut goodness. Check out this quote about their unique doughnutness.

Yeah, Baby! As a model and movie star I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard someone yell “lights, camera, action!”. Now it’s my turn to say it to you design heads out there.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it. When The Naperville Independent Film Festival called your boy Walter and said “Hello Walter….You Complete Me”, I simply took one look and told them they had me at Hello. NIFF is one of those events providing a platform for you to get your name out, much like HatHead…….and I love it.

NIFF is the stuff that dreams are made of! The festival takes place in Naperville, IL from September 24-27 of this year. More than 100 films from around the world have been submitted including films from Italy, Australia, France, Japan, India, Canada and the U.S. These included feature films, documentaries, shorts and animation. In addition, more than 30 original screen plays have been submitted to date.

Why am I telling you about this? First of all, I think it’s a great opportunity for you film buffs to show your stuff. Secondly, we are looking for you to create the design that will become the official hat of the festival!

Hey everyone! Hope your heads are staying happy this summer. To kick off these humid summer days, we here at Hat Head want to do our part in keeping you stylish this summer with a sale on all hats. Sorry for the lack of updates as of late! But never fear! We have been crazy busy getting some incredible new hats ready for your lonely, hatless heads. However, no matter how awesome they may be, they’re still not made out of hair like the fine example of premium headgear sculpture this gentleman is sporting. Who else has an exceptional example of head wear ingenuity?

Congrats to the very first Hathead winner Tim Damitz! Tim submitted this hot hat design while we were still in our pre-launch mode and in the last couple weeks it certainly proved itself in the voting section! Congrats to Tim on his new found fame and fortune!!

I personally loved this hat because when I turned 6 I became the youngest person ever to have a game literally melt due to the heat of useage while playing Space Invaders. 547 hours of full action gaming with no deaths. I was allowed sleep breaks but only for 3 hours at a clip. Once when I was presented with a trophy I said to myself “when I grow up and become the hot, in shape, super model for the coolest hat company on the planet - I will make sure to never forget my past”. When I saw this submission roll through, I just new it would have to be produced.

So who has some amazing video game stories to share?

I was at the Craft Beer Conference in San Diego, California for a few days last week making heads happy. Let me tell you; San Diego, microbrews, and sunshine hit the spot.

I discovered some great new brews and made a bunch of friends along the way. If you’re ever in their neck of the woods - drop in and say Walter sent you! Here are a few of the great tastes I met:

Fifty Fifty Brewing / Truckee, CA - If you’re anything like Walter you’re going to want to ask them for the Tri-Fecta, which is a light colored Belgian Triple……oh yeah - it’s also 11% APV. Don’t overlook the food because of the fact that it’s a brewery - these guys make some seriously good grub!

Stone Brewing - I recommend purchasing a Growler and walking up to the bar to request an Arrogant Bastard Ale! Damn right.

Baja Brewing / San Jose del Cabo, Mexico - The first brewery in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. It’s worth the trip just for the location, but don’t get it twisted! Our boys at Beer Magazine didn’t call this a “truly unique find” for nothing. Simply amazing. Check out the article here.

Great Waters Brewing Company / Saint Paul, MN - Winning medals is nothing new to these guys, who took home a gold for their Old Bastard Ale. Wonder how they get lucky? The building rests on the original site of the St. Paul Cathedral, where we are blessed with a natural spring well. The secret to the fabulous hand-crafted beer… holy water from the well!

The Fort Collins Brewery / Fort Collins, CO - Awesome beer from some creative heads. You need to join the FCB tap club so you can vote for your favorite beer! Members of the FCB tap club taste test a new beer every month. They will add a beer to their lineup if it received enough votes. Now that’s a brewery after my own heart!

Special shout out to my boy Derek Buono from Beer Magazine who is making it happen! Check them out as they grow!

MMMMMMM……..Beer. If you’re ever out for a cold one and want to be a wing man - give me a shout.
